About the Role
The main purpose of this position is to support the implementation of the marketing and PR plan for University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity, helping to increase donations and grants in line with its fundraising strategy.
Working alongside the Senior Communications Officer, the post holder will contribute to marketing campaigns, digital communications, media relations and the production of promotional materials.
The role also involves maintaining effective working relationships with the fundraising and communications teams, finance and business intelligence staff, clinical management teams, fund holders and other Trust employees.
Key Responsibilities
The Communication/Marketing and PR Assistant will be responsible for:
- Supporting the implementation of the charity’s marketing and public relations plans to achieve its fundraising objectives.
- Creating engaging written content for the charity’s website, social media channels, including Facebook and LinkedIn, and email marketing campaigns.
- Updating and maintaining digital communication channels and reviewing content regularly.
- Monitoring digital channel performance and preparing reports.
- Supporting internal communications to keep staff and volunteers informed about fundraising news.
- Writing and preparing communications materials, case studies, press releases and other promotional content.
- Responding to media enquiries and directing them to the appropriate contacts when necessary.
- Maintaining positive relationships with media contacts to increase support for the hospital charity.
- Managing and maintaining the charity team’s photo library.
- Designing marketing materials and publicity items and liaising with external suppliers about design and printing services.
- Ensuring consistent use of the charity’s branding across marketing materials.
- Working with the Trust’s Film Production Officer to produce short promotional films.
- Arranging meetings, maintaining records and following up on agreed actions.
- Providing website and social media training where required.
The successful candidate will also be expected to represent the Trust’s vision and values and work effectively with colleagues across relevant departments.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants must have:
- Education to diploma level, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualifications or experience.
Desirable qualification:
- A degree in Marketing or a related subject.
Essential Experience
Candidates should demonstrate:
- Relevant experience in marketing, public relations or communications.
- Experience writing copy for press releases and case studies.
Desirable experience:
- Experience using a website content management system (CMS).
- Experience designing marketing materials.
Skills and Knowledge
Applicants must demonstrate:
- The ability to write clear, grammatically correct letters, marketing copy, press releases and reports.
- Proofreading skills.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage several tasks.
- Knowledge of marketing techniques and procedures.
- Knowledge of public relations techniques.
- Effective time management and the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
- The ability to work independently, use initiative and contribute effectively as part of a team.
- The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Sufficient English-language ability to undertake the role.
Desirable skills include:
- Experience using a Mac.
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Creativity, attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure.
