Job Overview

University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting an enthusiastic and customer-focused Receptionist to join its Private Maternity Team on a 12-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave.

This opportunity is suitable for candidates with customer service and administrative experience who can provide a professional reception service and help ensure patients receive a positive experience.

You will be the first point of contact for patients and visitors, supporting the maternity team with appointments, bookings, enquiries and other administrative duties.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Maternity Team Leader and will be responsible for:

  • Welcoming patients and visitors and providing a professional reception service.
  • Managing appointments and supporting antenatal bookings.
  • Coordinating maternity tours and related arrangements.
  • Preparing financial estimates and collecting payments on account.
  • Responding to enquiries and helping resolve unexpected situations.
  • Providing administrative support to ensure the smooth running of the maternity service.
  • Communicating effectively with clinical and non-clinical teams.
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality and following data protection requirements.

Working Hours

The reception service operates between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm, Monday to Saturday.

Staff work a combination of early and late shifts to ensure adequate reception coverage throughout the service’s operating hours.

The post is advertised as full-time.

Essential Requirements

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

Qualifications and Knowledge

  • GCSEs or equivalent qualifications, including English and Mathematics at Grade C or above.
  • Knowledge of administrative procedures gained through training or previous administrative experience.
  • An understanding of confidentiality and data protection requirements.

Experience and Skills

  • Experience working in a customer-facing environment.
  • Knowledge of a range of administrative procedures.
  • The ability to respond to enquiries and manage unpredictable situations.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • The ability to work effectively with different teams and provide a high standard of customer service.

Desirable Qualification

An NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration, Customer Service, Healthcare Support Services or an equivalent qualification is desirable.
