About the Role

WSET is seeking an Instructional Design and Content Developer to design and develop accessible, engaging and high-quality digital learning resources for global audiences.

The successful candidate will contribute to online, blended and face-to-face learning environments while applying accessibility, inclusive design and adult learning principles through the ADDIE methodology.

The role involves working with internal teams, subject matter experts and external suppliers to ensure learning content meets WSET standards for quality, accessibility and learner experience.

Key Responsibilities – Analysis

• Identify learner requirements and learning objectives through needs analysis.
• Consider accessibility and inclusive learning practices.
• Collaborate with Research & Development teams to support curriculum and course design.
• Work with Project Management teams on planning and delivery.
• Use learner personas and learner insights to inform content.
• Contribute to project planning and scoping.
• Keep up to date with developments in digital, blended, synchronous and asynchronous learning.
• Participate in professional development and share relevant knowledge with colleagues.

Key Responsibilities – Design

• Apply instructional design, accessibility and inclusive design principles.
• Create learning components for different learning environments.
• Work with Educational Development and Qualifications teams.
• Design engaging learning activities for diverse global audiences.
• Develop content using appropriate approaches to representation, engagement and knowledge checking.
• Design flexible learning experiences.
• Support content architecture frameworks.
• Contribute to reviews of learning design tools, approaches and technologies.

Key Responsibilities – Development

• Design and develop learning materials for classroom, virtual and online delivery.
• Brief and commission content from subject matter experts.
• Use authoring tools such as Genially and Articulate 360.
• Collaborate with external suppliers.
• Ensure externally developed materials meet agreed quality standards.
• Brief the Content Operations team for editorial review.
• Use learning technologies to improve learner engagement.
• Develop materials supporting learner autonomy and independent study.
• Work with third-party providers on accessible learning experiences.

Key Responsibilities – Implementation

• Support Online Classroom and Educator Development teams.
• Provide guidance on the structure and use of course content.
• Support the handover and implementation of new or updated learning content.
• Collaborate with IT and Project teams.
• Contribute to annual content reviews and updates.
• Support localisation and adaptation of learning content.

Key Responsibilities – Evaluation

• Review formative assessments and learning activities.
• Use qualitative and quantitative learner data to assess course effectiveness.
• Identify opportunities for improvement.
• Update course materials based on evaluation findings.
• Contribute to reviews of content delivery tools and technologies.
• Participate in course improvement activities.
• Support continuous improvement through feedback and iterative development.

Essential Requirements

• Demonstrable experience in instructional design and/or learning content creation.
• Experience working with subject matter experts.
• Experience using a major Learning Management System, preferably Canvas.
• Competence using digital authoring tools, preferably Genially and Articulate 360.
• Knowledge of adult learning principles and pedagogy.
• Understanding of effective course design and delivery.
• Understanding of accessible and inclusive course design.
• Ability to produce high-quality learning content.
• Experience collaborating across teams and disciplines.
• Strong communication skills and high-quality written English.
• Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
• Ability to contribute effectively to project delivery.

Desirable Criteria

• Familiarity with digital authoring tools and learning technologies.
• Ability to interpret learner engagement data.
• Experience using data to improve learning content.
• Understanding of editorial processes and quality standards.
• Relevant instructional design or eLearning certification.
• Experience in further education, adult education or vocational education.
• Experience with project management methodologies, preferably Agile.
• Knowledge of wine, spirits, beer and/or sake production.
• Experience working with content in languages other than English.

Salary and Working Hours

£22,000–£25,000 per annum

The position is part-time, working 22.5 hours per week, flexibly across Monday to Friday.

The advertised salary is based on a London location and may vary for candidates based elsewhere.
