About the Role
The Government Digital Service (GDS), part of DSIT, leads the UK’s digital transformation across government. The successful candidates will join the Data Policy Analysis Team (DPAT) within the Data Economy Directorate.
The team develops robust evidence that informs national data policies, supports AI innovation, and contributes to major government initiatives that improve public services across the UK.
Working within a multidisciplinary team of economists, statisticians, operational researchers and social researchers, you will help deliver research and analytical insights that influence high-level government decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will:
- Lead quantitative research projects supporting UK data policy.
- Analyse large and complex datasets.
- Build reliable and reproducible analytical pipelines.
- Produce evidence to support policy development.
- Conduct economic and statistical analysis.
- Develop business cases and policy evaluations.
- Estimate the economic impact of proposed government policies.
- Present analytical findings clearly to senior leaders and non-technical audiences.
- Work collaboratively with analysts, policymakers and stakeholders across government.
Essential Requirements
Applicants should demonstrate:
- Strong experience in quantitative data analysis and statistical modelling.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of economic theory and policy evaluation.
- Ability to manage analytical projects from planning through delivery.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience presenting technical findings to different audiences.
- Eligibility for membership (or existing membership) of one of the following Government analytical professions:
- Government Economic Service (GES)
- Government Statistician Group (GSG)
- Government Social Research Service (GSR)
- Government Operational Research Service (GORS)
Desirable Skills
Applicants with any of the following will have an advantage:
- SQL
- Python
- R Programming
- Git version control
- Knowledge of the UK data economy
- Policy analysis experience
- Evidence reviews
- Economic modelling
