Overview

As a Payroll Services Officer, you’ll become the first point of contact for payroll enquiries from MPs and their staff.

You’ll ensure payroll is processed accurately, maintain compliance with HMRC regulations, assist customers with payroll issues, and support continuous improvements to payroll systems and services.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where accuracy, communication, and customer service are equally important.

Main Responsibilities

Your duties will include:

  • Processing payroll accurately and on schedule
  • Maintaining a monthly payroll accuracy target of 99.75%
  • Responding promptly to payroll enquiries via phone and email
  • Updating payroll records in accordance with HR policies
  • Ensuring compliance with HMRC payroll legislation
  • Supporting payroll system testing and improvements
  • Managing pension auto-enrolment processes
  • Advising MPs on staffing budgets and payroll forecasts
  • Monitoring budget overspends and assisting with recoveries
  • Delivering payroll training sessions and presentations
  • Supporting colleagues and contributing to team objectives
  • Promoting IPSA’s organisational values

Essential Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) qualification (Associate level or above)
  • Strong payroll processing experience within a complex organisation
  • Excellent understanding of PAYE and National Insurance calculations
  • Knowledge of workplace pension schemes and auto-enrolment
  • Current knowledge of HMRC payroll legislation
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong teamwork and problem-solving skills

Desirable Skills

Candidates with the following will have an advantage:

  • Experience delivering presentations or training
  • Experience using Business World (Agresso)
  • Experience using CRM systems
