Job Overview

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Pharmacist Information Officer to join its Pharmacy IT Team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced hospital pharmacist with an interest in pharmacy informatics, Epic, electronic prescribing, medicines optimisation, clinical systems and digital transformation.

UK Skilled Worker Sponsorship

About the Role

The Pharmacist Information Officer will play a key role within the Pharmacy IT Team, supporting the continued development of clinical information systems and digital pharmacy services.

The postholder will lead or contribute to the clinical aspects of pharmacy-related IT projects, including the ongoing development of Epic, particularly around the safe prescribing and administration of medicines.

The role will also support pharmacy IT initiatives involving workflow, reporting and medicines expenditure, including high-cost drugs.

Key Responsibilities

Pharmacy IT & Digital Transformation

• Support the design of future clinical and research processes and workflows.
• Contribute to medicines management aspects of GOSH’s clinical systems strategy.
• Support development of the Electronic Patient Record programme.
• Contribute to ICT systems and clinical transformation projects involving medicines management.
• Assist with implementation of the pharmacy IT strategy.
• Act as a source of information and expertise for pharmacy IT and Epic.

Epic & Electronic Prescribing

• Develop expertise in EPR technology capabilities.
• Help maximise technology to improve patient safety and medicines optimisation.
• Support development and implementation of decision-support tools.
• Promote safe prescribing and medicines administration.
• Support improvement of pharmacy workflows and digital processes.
• Provide pharmacy IT and Epic-related support.

Clinical Pharmacy

• Medicines reconciliation.
• Drug supply.
• Review of highly complex medication regimens.
• Monitoring drug interactions.
• Monitoring adverse drug reactions.
• Participation in consultant ward rounds.
• Participation in multidisciplinary meetings.
• Supporting safe and effective pharmaceutical care.

Patient Safety

The successful candidate will help ensure that technology and infrastructure support the prevention of medication errors and adverse events.

Essential Qualifications

Applicants must have:

• M.Pharm or equivalent, or BPharm/BSc Hons for pharmacists who qualified before 2002.
• Current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

Desirable Qualifications

• Postgraduate qualification in Clinical Pharmacy.
• Postgraduate qualification in Digital Health.

Essential Experience & Knowledge

• Experience practising as a pharmacist within a hospital environment.
