About the Opportunity

The Crown Prosecution Service is the principal prosecuting authority across England and Wales and is responsible for delivering justice through the independent and effective prosecution of crime.

The campaign brings together several A2/AO opportunities supporting case progression, administration, victim communication and financial processing.

Successful applicants will be placed on a merit list based on their preferred role and location. Offers depend on available vacancies and business requirements.

Important: You can apply for only one of the two CPS campaigns: Regional/Headquarters or Casework. Duplicate applications will be rejected.

Roles Included in the Campaign

Casework Assistant

Provide frontline casework support to prosecutors and legal teams by:

  • Preparing cases for court
  • Serving documents
  • Maintaining case files
  • Supporting magistrates’ and Crown Court hearings
  • Responding to enquiries
  • Communicating with criminal justice partners, victims and witnesses
  • Recording information accurately

Administrative Officer

Provide administrative support across CPS departments, including:

  • Supporting day-to-day business operations
  • Maintaining high standards of accuracy and professionalism

Advocacy Clerking Assistant

Support the Crown Advocacy Unit by:

  • Preparing and managing Crown Court lists
  • Allocating cases and briefing advocates
  • Liaising with Crown Advocates, paralegals and chambers
  • Arranging advocacy cover
  • Maintaining diaries and databases
  • Managing inboxes
  • Producing standard correspondence

Victim Liaison Assistant

Act as an important point of contact for victims by:

  • Providing clear and timely communication
  • Drafting correspondence in plain English
  • Responding to enquiries and complaints
  • Handling Victims’ Right to Review requests
  • Arranging meetings
  • Managing caseloads
  • Liaising with prosecutors and Witness Care Units

Fees Clerk

Candidates may be appointed to a regional or headquarters team depending on role, location, vacancies and business need.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Have strong digital communication skills
  • Have knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications
  • Have an interest in criminal law and public service
  • Be 18 or over before starting the role

The expected start date is approximately 8–12 weeks after the application deadline.

Salary and Pension

National salary: £24,800 – £26,700

London salary: £26,000 – £28,500 + £3,150 RRA

The CPS also contributes towards membership of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension Scheme, with an advertised employer contribution of 28.97%.

Recruitment Process

The recruitment process consists of an online test and application, video interview and final online interview.

Stage 1 – Civil Service Judgement Test and Application

After submitting the initial application form, candidates will be invited to complete the online Civil Service Judgement Test.

Candidates who successfully complete the test will then complete the employment history section.

Both the online test and full application must be submitted before 11:00 am on 7 September 2026.

The CPS recommends completing the online test within 24–48 hours of receiving the invitation.

Stage 2 – Video Interview

Candidates who pass Stage 1 will be invited to complete a recorded video interview.

Invitation date: 10 September 2026

Deadline: 11:00 am on 17 September 2026

Reasonable adjustment requests should be made by 11:00 am on 9 September 2026 where possible.

Stage 3 – Final Interview

Candidates who pass the video interview will progress to a final CPS panel interview.

Expected invitation: Week commencing 26 October 2026

Expected interview period: 2 November – 4 December 2026

Final interviews will be conducted virtually through Microsoft Teams.

Important Application Warning

Only one campaign can be selected.

If duplicate applications are submitted, the CPS states that the first application will be accepted and the second rejected.

Offer of Employment

Successful applicants will be placed on a merit list based on their preferred role and first-choice location.

Results are expected during the week commencing 7 December 2026, although dates may change.

Candidates who pass but are not immediately offered a role may be placed on a reserve list for up to 12 months.

A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required, and applicants must have a current valid UK address for this process.

Successful candidates must also complete the appropriate government security checks, including Baseline Personnel Security Standard checks where applicable.
