London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust is recruiting a Band 3 Healthcare Support Worker to join its Dermatology team at Northwick Park Hospital in Harrow.

The successful candidate will support nurses and clinicians in delivering high-quality patient care within outpatient clinics. The role involves assisting with clinical procedures, supporting patient flow, maintaining clinical areas and equipment, recording basic observations and providing compassionate support to patients.

This is a permanent, full-time Band 3 NHS position with a salary of £30,630 to £32,346 per year, inclusive of HCAS pro rata.

About the Role

The Healthcare Support Worker will work as part of the Dermatology team under the supervision of registered healthcare professionals.

You will help create a safe, efficient and patient-focused environment while supporting patients attending outpatient appointments, consultations and procedures.

The position would suit someone with healthcare experience who understands patient care, communicates effectively and has basic IT skills.

Previous Dermatology or outpatient experience is desirable but not essential.

Key Responsibilities

Your duties will include:

  • Supporting patients and providing high-quality care within outpatient clinics.
  • Assisting nurses and clinicians with clinical procedures and examinations.
  • Recording baseline observations and carrying out blood glucose monitoring.
  • Performing urinalysis and BMI measurements.
  • Acting as a chaperone and patient advocate during consultations and procedures.
  • Supporting patient flow within the department.
  • Maintaining appropriate stock levels.
  • Keeping clinical areas clean, tidy and properly equipped.
  • Cleaning, maintaining and safely storing clinical equipment.
  • Reporting equipment faults and other concerns when identified.
  • Supporting infection prevention and control procedures.
  • Preparing and cleaning patient areas.
  • Communicating effectively with patients, visitors and members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Using Trust IT systems for patient administration, admissions, discharges and clinical documentation.
  • Taking part in mandatory training, appraisal and continuing professional development.
  • Supporting new members of staff within the department.
  • Escalating concerns and seeking assistance promptly when necessary to maintain patient safety.

Requirements / Person Specification

Essential requirements:

  • Education to GCSE level.
  • Previous work experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Understanding of patient care.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • Ability to complete the required Maths and English test.

Desirable requirements:

  • NVQ Level 2 in Care or a Care Certificate.
  • Previous experience working in Dermatology.
  • Previous outpatient experience.
