About the Role
Staffordshire County Council is recruiting a Day Service Assistant to support adults with learning disabilities at The Pipers Specialist Day Opportunities in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
This is a person-centred social care role focused on helping individuals with complex needs, profound and multiple learning disabilities, autism and behaviours that may challenge to develop independence, wellbeing and meaningful opportunities.
You will support people both within the specialist day service and, where required, in the wider community through activities, sessions and outings.

Key Responsibilities
As a Day Service Assistant, your duties will include:
- Providing high-quality, person-centred support based on individual needs and strengths
- Acting as a Link Worker and contributing to the assessment, development, delivery and review of support plans
- Supporting people with medication and personal care
- Carrying out manual handling requirements using appropriate equipment and techniques
- Using physical intervention skills where required
- Taking an active role in person-centred activities
- Planning and delivering community outings and activities
- Supporting sensory sessions and other meaningful activities
- Helping individuals achieve greater independence, wellbeing and positive outcomes
The role may require you to work flexibly across Staffordshire County Council’s Provider Services, including different care settings, locations and approaches to service delivery.
Essential Requirements
Applicants should be able to demonstrate:
- Experience working with people with learning disabilities and autism
- A current driving licence and access to a vehicle, or the ability to reach relevant areas of the local community using public transport
- A caring, patient and sensitive approach
- The ability to support people to become as independent as possible
- Good ICT skills for maintaining digital records
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to remain calm and respond sensitively to potential or actual aggression and challenging situations
- The physical ability and willingness to provide personal and intimate care
- The physical ability to undertake manual handling duties
Qualifications and Training
Holding an NVQ Level 2 qualification or Care Certificate is welcomed but is not essential.
Staffordshire County Council states that it is willing to support suitable candidates in gaining the skills and knowledge required for these qualifications.
Visa Sponsorship
This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

DBS and Pre-Employment Checks

Working Environment
The main base is The Pipers Specialist Day Opportunities in Newcastle-under-Lyme, although the successful candidate may occasionally be required to work across other Provider Services locations and care settings.
