About the Role

As a Business Analyst, you will work within multidisciplinary digital teams to help turn business and user needs into effective technical solutions.

You will contribute throughout the product delivery lifecycle, working in Agile environments and collaborating with technical and business stakeholders to improve services and deliver meaningful outcomes.

The successful candidates will work across areas including:

The role also provides opportunities to develop within DWP’s established Business Analysis profession, with access to experienced Senior and Lead Business Analysts, coaching, mentoring and a professional community of practice.

Regular travel to other DWP digital hubs may be required, with the frequency discussed during the recruitment process.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Work within transformational multidisciplinary teams using Agile methodologies.
  • Communicate effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
  • Translate business problems and user needs into detailed requirements and backlogs.
  • Support Product Managers with prioritisation, epics, features and user stories.
  • Research and analyse business processes and activities.
  • Use appropriate business analysis techniques to model existing and new processes.
  • Lead workshops, interviews and other investigation activities.
  • Develop your knowledge of Business Analysis and Agile principles, tools and techniques.
  • Contribute to the wider Business Analysis community.
  • Coach, mentor and share knowledge with other colleagues.

Essential Experience

  • Experience using a wide range of analysis techniques to understand problems and user or business needs.

Hybrid Working

Where hybrid working is suitable, employees will normally be required to spend a minimum of 60% of their contracted working hours in their DWP office.

The contractual workplace will be the relevant DWP office.

For Newcastle, successful candidates will initially be based at Benton Park View before the role moves to 1 Pilgrim Place in Newcastle city centre by the end of 2027.

For Sheffield King’s Court, roles will initially be based at King’s Court before moving to 1 West Bar by early 2028.

Salary and Benefits

The salary is £44,447 to £46,547 per year, depending on skills and experience.

DWP also contributes towards the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension Scheme, with the advert stating an employer contribution of £12,876 based on the advertised salary.

Application and Selection Process

The vacancy uses the Civil Service Success Profiles recruitment process and will assess Ability, Experience and Technical Skills.

The first stage includes:

  1. Personal details application form
  2. Civil Service Verbal Test

Candidates who successfully complete the test will then complete their employment history and a personal statement of up to 500 words.

The personal statement should provide examples demonstrating how you meet the essential criteria.

The initial sift will focus on the lead criterion:

Significant experience of working across the full breadth of the Business Analyst role.

Candidates who pass the initial sift will proceed to the full sift.

Successful candidates will be invited to a video interview via Microsoft Teams. Interviews are expected to take place from late November 2026.

Interview candidates will receive the interview questions at least 5 days before the interview.
