Salary by Location
The salary range depends on the office location:
- National locations: £33,422–£40,731 per year
- Outer London: £35,587–£43,244 per year
- Inner London: £37,749–£45,353 per year
Salary offers are normally made at the minimum of the relevant grade, although flexibility may be possible in exceptional circumstances.
About the Role
The Project Support Officer will help ensure projects run smoothly by supporting Senior Project Managers and Project Leads. The work involves coordinating project activities, maintaining management processes and helping teams deliver their objectives.
Working within a Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) environment, the successful candidate may support project governance, reporting, risk management, digital and data coordination, stakeholder engagement and service delivery.
The role follows the Government Project Delivery Profession’s Project Support Officer profile and aligns with the Project Delivery Capability Framework.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Planning and scheduling: Maintain systems and processes that support effective project planning and scheduling.
- Project monitoring and reporting: Maintain project controls, track progress and prepare performance reports for project managers.
- Project administration: Coordinate administrative activities and monitor compliance with relevant departmental policies.
- Resource management: Support workforce planning, resource allocation and the procurement of supplies and services within delegated financial limits.
- Stakeholder engagement: Maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders, coordinate communications and act as a contact point where required.
- Financial management: Monitor project expenditure, contribute to budgets and business cases, and maintain accurate asset records.
- Risk and issue management: Identify potential risks, work with relevant colleagues and escalate concerns when necessary.
- Digital project support: Depending on business needs, assist with Jira workflows, Confluence knowledge management, project governance, assurance and data-related activities.
- Continuous improvement: Promote good practice and lessons learned to improve project delivery.
These duties may vary according to business requirements.
Essential Requirements
Applicants should demonstrate:
- Working knowledge of project or programme environments, including planning, scheduling, resource management, risk and issue management, change control, governance, project methodologies and assurance.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to challenge constructively and ensure accurate information is provided at the right time.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective relationships with different stakeholders.
- The ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail.
- Experience using digital tools and data analytics to support project decision-making.
- Experience promoting best practice and sharing lessons learned to support continuous improvement.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Candidates must also prepare a one-page A4 document demonstrating one of the following:
- A project status report.
- An extract from a RAID log (risks, assumptions, issues and dependencies).
- An excerpt from a project plan.
- A brief summary of concerns, risks, issues or dependencies to raise with a Senior Project Manager or Project Lead, including recommended actions.
The document must be emailed to sarah.patel@ukhsa.gov.uk at least three days before the scheduled interview. It will be used to assess technical skills.
