About the Role
Sussex Police is using data and analytics to improve operational effectiveness and organisational efficiency. The aim is to provide frontline officers and teams with better information so they can save time, target resources effectively and make informed decisions.
The Corporate Development Department is developing advanced insight from the extensive and complex data held by Sussex Police using Microsoft Fabric.
The successful applicant will join the development team and help design and maintain Microsoft Fabric artefacts, including Power BI Semantic Models, Azure Data Factory Pipelines and Synapse tools.
The role will also involve bringing data into Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse and/or Data Warehouse environments and supporting the continued improvement of products and services delivered to Chief Officers and frontline teams.
What You Will Be Responsible For
The successful candidate will be involved in a range of data engineering, analytics and Microsoft Fabric activities, including:
- Integrating, transforming and consolidating batch data at scale for analytics solutions, from raw through to curated data.
- Working as part of the team responsible for Microsoft Fabric and Power BI service delivery and continuous improvement.
- Gathering data requirements and mapping data to support migration from the Strategic Insights team and existing dataflows.
- Providing technical expertise in Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Oracle and SQL development.
- Supporting colleagues with technical requirements and development work.
- Defining and maintaining architectural standards, frameworks and processes for building and exposing data through reusable Power BI semantic models.
- Carrying out other duties appropriate to the grade and nature of the work, including duties of a similar or lower grade where reasonably required.
Skills and Experience Required
Applicants should have relevant technical knowledge and experience, including:
- A degree in computing, statistics, mathematics or a related statistical discipline, or equivalent relevant work experience.
- A strong background in data modelling and experience working with multiple data sources in Microsoft Fabric.
- Industry experience delivering Power BI or Microsoft Analytics solutions, including a good understanding of associated governance requirements.
- Experience building dataflows and semantic models using SQL, DAX, Power BI or other visualisation tools.
- Experience gathering business intelligence requirements, mapping data and understanding business processes at different levels.
- Experience developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with stakeholders.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
- The ability to work independently and manage your workload in a dynamic environment.
- The ability to manage competing priorities, negotiate solutions and resolve problems with colleagues and customers.
