Job Overview

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Nightingale Worker to work within Saint Mary’s Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC).

The successful candidate will work alongside the Independent Sexual Violence Adviser (ISVA) Team to support victims of sexual violence across Greater Manchester and undertake specific ISVA-related duties as directed by the ISVA Team Lead and/or SARC Senior Management Team.

The role involves providing support, advice and advocacy to adults, children and young people accessing SARC services.

Main Responsibilities

The Nightingale Worker will:

  • Provide telephone and face-to-face support to SARC clients.
  • Work alongside the ISVA Team to support victims of sexual violence.
  • Provide non-judgmental and confidential support.
  • Complete detailed support needs and risk assessments.
  • Make onward referrals to safeguarding, counselling, healthcare and other appropriate services.
  • Work with multi-agency partners, including criminal justice agencies, social care teams, forensic physicians and schools.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Work independently and as part of a wider professional team.

Essential Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • An understanding of issues relating to rape and sexual assault.
  • Knowledge and experience of providing one-to-one support.
  • Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System.
  • A clear understanding of safeguarding and the ability to respond appropriately.
  • Understanding of diversity issues, particularly in relation to SARC services.
  • Experience maintaining accurate records and data.
  • Experience handling confidential information.
  • Teamwork experience.
  • A good standard of education.
  • Excellent organisational and IT skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage your own workload.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Willingness to learn and develop your practice.
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and meet service requirements.

Desirable Experience

The following would be advantageous:

  • Experience supporting children, young people or adults.
  • Experience working within Criminal Justice services.
  • Experience in a health, social care or voluntary-sector setting.
  • A Certificate in Counselling.

Hybrid Working
