About the Role
Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Children and Young People’s Social Worker to join the CYPMHS South Hertfordshire multidisciplinary team.
This is a permanent, full-time position working 37.5 hours per week. The successful candidate will contribute to clinical and social work provision within the service, supporting children, young people and their families.
The role involves referral screening and allocation, comprehensive assessments, evidence-based interventions, care coordination, risk management and safeguarding. You will also contribute to multidisciplinary discussions and service development.
The post holder will provide specialist consultation, advice and supervision to colleagues, students and professionals working across partner agencies and services.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver specialist, evidence-based interventions for children, young people and their families.
- Provide accessible, person-centred services through clinic-based and community outreach models.
- Provide specialist advice, consultation and formulation-based guidance to colleagues and partner agencies.
- Manage a caseload, undertaking specialist assessments and coordinating integrated packages of care.
- Contribute to the development of social work practice within the service.
- Provide supervision and professional support to colleagues and other professionals where appropriate.
- Participate in clinical supervision, appraisal and continuing professional development.
- Chair and attend multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Work collaboratively with HPFT colleagues and partner organisations.
- Support the identification, assessment and management of mental health difficulties, neurodevelopmental conditions and associated risks.
- Promote the safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
Essential Qualifications and Registration
Applicants must have:
- A relevant professional qualification.
- Social Work qualification with valid Social Work England registration.
- Further relevant training or qualifications.
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
UK professional registration is required for this role.
Essential Experience and Knowledge
Candidates should have:
- Post-qualification experience in a CYPMHS team or related area, or significant relevant experience before qualification.
- Experience working with moderate to severe mental health problems.
- Knowledge of clinical interventions involving children, adolescents and their families or carers.
- Experience of multidisciplinary and inter-agency working.
- Knowledge of child development and child and adolescent mental health.
- Understanding of theoretical approaches, particularly trauma and attachment.
- Ability to provide supervision, appraisal, preceptorship, practice education and staff support.
- Knowledge of current developments in mental health or learning disability care.
- Ability to provide consultation to professional and non-professional groups.
- Knowledge of research and literature relating to mental health interventions for children.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and its implications for clinical practice.
Desirable Experience
Experience of service quality monitoring, such as clinical audit or evaluative research, is desirable.
