About the Role
As a Social Worker within Children and Families Social Care, you will work with children, young people, and families to safeguard children and improve outcomes through partnership working with health, education, housing, police, and other agencies.
The service provides statutory support for:
- Children in Need
- Children with disabilities
- Children subject to Child Protection Plans
- Looked After Children
- Care Leavers
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out child-centred assessments of need and risk.
- Safeguard children and promote their welfare.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with children and families.
- Manage a varied caseload of children and young people.
- Develop, review, and implement care plans.
- Complete statutory assessments and risk assessments.
- Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners.
- Prepare court reports and professional documentation.
- Maintain accurate and timely case records.
- Promote equality, diversity, and anti-discriminatory practice.
- Participate in duty work, supervision, and continuous professional development.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must have:
- A recognised Social Work Degree.
- Current registration with Social Work England.
- A full UK driving licence.
- Access to their own vehicle for work-related travel.
- Excellent assessment, safeguarding, and communication skills.
Skilled Worker Visa Sponsorship
Somerset Council may consider Skilled Worker visa sponsorship for suitably qualified overseas Social Workers who:
- Are already living in the UK.
- Hold a recognised Social Work qualification.
- Are registered with Social Work England.
