About the Role
The Operational Support Grade (OSG) is a vital member of the prison team, helping ensure the safe, secure and efficient operation of HMP Long Lartin.
This is an active role involving walking, standing, lifting, carrying equipment, and working both independently and as part of a wider prison operations team. Depending on operational requirements, you may have limited or regular interaction with prisoners.
Successful applicants receive comprehensive training before undertaking operational duties.
Key Responsibilities
Your daily responsibilities may include:
- Managing secure entry and exit points
- Searching visitors, vehicles and staff
- Escorting contractors and official visitors
- Patrolling prison grounds and perimeter fences
- Issuing and collecting staff keys and radios
- Monitoring CCTV systems
- Operating prison communication systems
- Welcoming and assisting prison visitors
- Processing incoming mail and identifying prohibited items
- Photographing newly admitted prisoners
- Managing prisoner property and parcels
- Supporting prison officers with prisoner movement
- Delivering food trolleys across the prison
- Transporting prisoners where required
- Collecting official mail
- Maintaining prisoner telephone records
- Following prison security procedures and emergency protocols
- Performing overnight security duties

Security Clearance
This role requires:
- Enhanced DBS Check
- Counter Terrorism Check (CTC)
- HMPPS Enhanced Level 2 Vetting
