About the Role
The Recovery Support Worker will work as part of a multidisciplinary community mental health team alongside:
- Nurses
- Social workers
- Occupational therapists
- Psychiatrists
- Psychologists
- Peer support workers
You will develop therapeutic relationships with service users, provide practical and emotional support, promote recovery and help individuals work towards their personal goals.
The role includes community-based work, direct clinical support, care planning and collaboration with service users, families, carers and partner agencies.
Main Responsibilities
As a Recovery Support Worker, you will:
- Provide recovery-focused support to people experiencing mental health difficulties.
- Build positive and therapeutic relationships with service users.
- Support individuals to achieve their recovery goals.
- Encourage engagement with treatment and care plans.
- Promote independence, wellbeing and social inclusion.
- Help service users access appropriate local resources and services.
- Provide practical and emotional support in community settings.
- Monitor individual service user progress.
- Contribute to assessments, reports and care reviews.
- Support the development of individual care plans under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Ensure fundamental care needs such as nutrition, hydration, hygiene and comfort are met.
- Undertake one-to-one engagement with service users.
- Maintain the dignity, respect, equality and diversity of service users.
- Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Recognise and escalate concerns to the appropriate healthcare professional.
- Maintain accurate records and communicate sensitive information appropriately.
- Support junior staff and contribute to effective team working.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants should have:
- Completed the Care Certificate and acquired the required competencies.
- Basic English and Mathematics qualifications, such as GCSE Grade C or above.
- Alternatively, evidence of Level 2 Functional Skills in literacy and numeracy.
Desirable Qualifications
The following would be advantageous:
- Level 2 or Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification.
- Currently working towards a relevant Health and Social Care qualification.
Essential Experience
Candidates should have:
- At least 1 year of clinical experience.
- Experience engaging with service users or patients.
- Knowledge of treatment options.
- Ability to provide quality, person-centred care.
- Ability to work independently within relevant policies, protocols and care plans.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to receive and communicate sensitive information.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to recognise when concerns need to be escalated.
- Ability to organise, prioritise and coordinate work.
- A proactive and flexible approach.
- Empathy for people experiencing mental health difficulties.
- Ability to manage challenging behaviour appropriately.
Desirable Experience and Skills
Experience in the following areas would be beneficial:
- Working across different clinical care settings.
- Staff supervision.
- Specialist clinical skills such as:
- ECG
- Vital signs
- Phlebotomy
- Lived experience of mental health.
