About the Role
The Portfolio Lead will be part of the Housing Ombudsman Service’s Project and Portfolio Management function, supporting the organisation to identify, plan, prioritise, align and coordinate change activity across directorate portfolios and its emerging organisation-wide transformation programme.
You will provide leadership and coordination across projects, programmes and portfolio initiatives, helping the organisation deliver change effectively.
The role involves working with multidisciplinary teams and senior stakeholders while supporting a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Key Responsibilities
As Portfolio Lead, you will:
- Provide leadership and coordination across projects, programmes and portfolio initiatives.
- Support effective portfolio-level planning, monitoring and reporting.
- Ensure robust project and portfolio management processes are maintained.
- Develop and monitor project plans to support timely delivery and value for money.
- Coordinate multiple related projects within a wider portfolio.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Engage with senior stakeholders and provide appropriate advice and guidance.
- Help ensure projects and change activity remain aligned with strategic priorities.
- Support compliance with agreed governance and assurance frameworks.
- Contribute to continuous learning and improvement across project and change delivery.
- Manage competing priorities and organise work effectively against challenging deadlines.
Requirements / Person Specification
The successful candidate should be a qualified and experienced project management professional with a proven track record in portfolio management.
You should have:
- Experience developing and monitoring project plans.
- Experience of ensuring value for money and timely project delivery.
- Experience working with senior stakeholders and providing advice or guidance at senior level.
- Experience managing portfolios involving multiple associated projects.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software.
- Working knowledge of Government Green Book appraisal and evaluation principles.
- In-depth understanding of business case methodologies and their practical application.
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
- Ability to manage conflicting demands and challenging deadlines.
- Effective negotiation and influencing skills.
Working Pattern
This is a remote UK-based role with a working commitment of 35 hours per week.
The position is offered on a fixed-term basis until 31 March 2028.
