About the Data Analyst Role
Moorfields Eye Hospital is one of the UK’s oldest and largest ophthalmology providers, delivering services across more than 20 sites in London and the southeast.
The Transformation team is looking for a technically minded and numerate Data Analyst with strong SQL and Microsoft Excel skills.
The successful candidate will use data to identify efficiencies, support informed decision-making and contribute to improvements in patient outcomes.
Working Arrangement and Development
The team’s current office is based at Old Street, London, with plans to move to offices in King’s Cross in 2027.
The role offers flexible hybrid working, with an expectation of approximately two days per week on site.

Main Responsibilities
Analytical Service and Insight
The Data Analyst will:
- Gather information from relevant stakeholders and convert it into useful intelligence.
- Interpret analytical findings and provide recommendations.
- Advise senior staff and service managers on information and reports.
- Support and, where appropriate, lead performance and information reporting.
- Identify data-quality issues and investigate irregularities.
- Explain data terminology and findings to relevant stakeholders.
Performance and Information
Responsibilities include:
- Following up omissions, errors and inconsistencies in datasets.
- Developing and maintaining regular internal and external reporting.
- Identifying opportunities to automate reporting processes.
- Providing managers and clinicians with information required to support high-quality patient services.
- Analysing performance trends and highlighting significant variances.
- Using advanced Excel skills to combine data sources, produce statistics, pivot tables and graphs.
- Extracting and manipulating information from the Trust’s data warehouse using T-SQL and Microsoft SQL Management Studio.
- Testing and auditing clinical systems and verifying data outputs.
- Supporting the development and scoping of new datasets.
- Conducting audits, including time-and-motion data collection in clinics and theatres.
Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
The successful candidate will also:
- Deputise for the Line Manager at relevant meetings and forums.
- Present written and verbal reports.
- Represent the Transformation team at internal and external meetings.
- Help determine appropriate performance measures.
- Translate business requirements into meaningful metrics.
- Share relevant knowledge with colleagues and the wider transformation team.
People and Performance
The role requires the successful candidate to:
- Demonstrate Moorfields’ values and expected behaviours.
- Support administrative processes within the Transformation team.
- Liaise with IT teams and suppliers when issues arise.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants should have:
- A degree in a technical or numerate discipline, such as Mathematics or Computer Science, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
Desirable Qualification
- A Master’s degree or similar qualification in a relevant discipline, or equivalent experience.
Essential Experience
Candidates should have:
- Significant experience working as a Data Analyst.
- Experience producing reports, dashboards and visualisations for different audiences.
- Experience using data to support service change or improvement.
- Experience working in the NHS or healthcare sector, particularly within hospital services.
Essential Skills
Applicants should demonstrate:
- The ability to accurately analyse and interpret complex data.
- Strong understanding of data quality, confidentiality and security.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to explain technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with SQL querying and relevant coding development.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas and pivot tables.
Desirable Skills and Experience
The following would be advantageous:
- Knowledge of project management or improvement methodologies such as Agile or PDSA.
- Experience using business intelligence tools, particularly Qlik Sense.
- Experience developing dashboards using Qlik Sense.
- Experience with electronic medical record systems, financial software or CRM systems.
- Experience coding in R or another programming language for data analysis.
