About the Role
Castle Donington Surgery is looking for a Patient Services Team Member to provide reception and administrative support within the practice.
The successful applicant will have regular contact with patients both face-to-face and by telephone, while also supporting the wider primary healthcare team with administrative and clinical workflow duties.
You will need to be confident dealing with patients, able to remain calm under pressure and comfortable working in a fast-changing environment.
Previous experience in general practice is essential, with knowledge of SystmOne considered particularly useful.
Key Responsibilities
Your duties will include:
- Processing patient appointment requests and directing patients to the appropriate point of care
- Answering telephone calls and dealing with patient enquiries
- Providing face-to-face support at reception
- Managing the reception and waiting areas
- Responding to requests through the practice’s online consultation system
- Supporting members of the primary healthcare team with administrative duties
- Managing digital workflow and correspondence
- Scanning letters and correspondence into patient records
- Processing repeat prescription and medication requests
- Processing pathology results
- Monitoring patient call and recall systems
- Supporting Long Term Condition clinics
- Processing NHS mail
- Handling private and insurance-related work
- Managing patient medical record movement
- Sorting incoming and outgoing post
- Summarising patient records
- Maintaining accurate practice records
- Ensuring patient information and data remain secure
Requirements / Person Specification
Essential qualifications:
- GCSE level education or equivalent
Desirable qualifications:
- GCSE English and Mathematics at grade C or above
- AMSPAR Receptionist Qualification
- NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care
Essential experience:
- Experience working with the general public
- Experience using clinical IT systems
- Previous general practice experience is essential for this role
Desirable experience and skills:
- Administrative experience

- Strong written and verbal communication skills
