Job Summary
NHS Blood and Transplant is seeking a Senior Media and PR Officer to support its communications work across blood, plasma and organ donation.
The successful candidate will deliver proactive and reactive media relations, secure media coverage, develop engaging content and support national communications campaigns. The role also involves responding to media enquiries, identifying stories and working with colleagues, donors, patients and external stakeholders.
Main Responsibilities
- Support the Communications team in delivering high-quality communications to recruit new donors and showcase NHSBT’s work.
- Deliver proactive communications, including national and local announcements and consumer and ethnic-minority-focused media activity.
- Handle reactive media enquiries, rebuttals and media monitoring.
- Work with colleagues across marketing, public affairs and internal communications to deliver coordinated communications plans.
- Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Use free media and low-cost or no-cost PR opportunities to recruit new donors.
- Identify new trends and communication channels to reach target audiences.
Essential Requirements
Applicants should have:
- A degree plus postgraduate diploma, or equivalent experience, in marketing, communications or a similar field.
- A commitment to continuing professional development.
- IT literacy, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Demonstrable experience producing high-quality communications plans.
- Advanced keyboard skills with a high level of accuracy.
- Experience developing and delivering internal communications programmes using a wide range of channels and media.
- An understanding of and respect for donor and patient confidentiality.
