About the Role

Herefordshire Council is offering an entry-level Public Health Apprentice opportunity for someone looking to develop a career in public health while completing a fully funded degree apprenticeship programme.

Working within the Public Health team and wider council, the successful candidate will support work aimed at promoting healthier lifestyles and reducing health inequalities across the population.

The role involves working alongside public health specialists and contributing to projects, programmes and partnerships covering areas such as:

  • Healthy weight
  • Mental wellbeing
  • Substance misuse
  • Physical activity
  • Food
  • Health protection
  • Children and young people’s health
  • Wider determinants of health

The apprentice will also support collaboration and partnership working across council services and other organisations.

Apprenticeship and Development

The successful candidate will be required to successfully complete an approved degree apprenticeship programme and demonstrate how their learning is applied within the workplace.

This is a developmental role designed for individuals who want to build their skills and qualifications through a structured apprenticeship pathway and pursue a career in public health.

The position is offered on a three-year fixed-term basis, linked to the available funding.

Due to the funding conditions, the successful candidate must be able to start in post no later than 30 November 2026.

Salary and Benefits

The role offers a salary of £29,071 to £33,119 per annum, pro rata at £23,571 to £26,853.
