Job Overview
Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Healthcare Science Practitioner – Sleep Service to join its expanding Sleep Department at Trafford General Hospital.
The role supports the delivery of sleep services at Trafford General Hospital and the Community Diagnostic Centre at Withington Community Hospital.
The successful applicant will work within a modern sleep service serving patients across the North West. The service has a CPAP user base of more than 8,000 patients and provides diagnostic and therapeutic pathways covering respiratory and non-respiratory sleep disorders.
The working pattern includes weekend, evening and night shift rotations according to service requirements.
Key Responsibilities
The role will involve:
- Maintaining accurate records of procedures and patient interactions.
- Performing, analysing and reporting routine sleep investigations.
- Carrying out respiratory sleep studies and CPAP compliance assessments.
- Preparing equipment for polygraphy and complex polysomnography studies.
- Supporting patients undergoing sleep investigations.
- Attending revision courses to maintain and develop professional knowledge.
- Supporting teaching and demonstrations in Sleep Medicine and Sleep Physiology.
- Assisting with the education of university students and trainees undertaking clinical physiology and advanced Sleep Medicine programmes.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants should have:
- A BSc in Biological or Physiological Sciences, or an equivalent qualification.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
Essential Experience
Applicants should have experience in:
- Working within a respiratory sleep service.
- CPAP issuing, monitoring and troubleshooting.
- Polygraphy issuing, downloading and scoring.
Desirable Experience and Qualifications
The following would be advantageous:
- Competence in setting up, downloading and scoring polygraphy studies.
- PTP (Sleep) graduate status.
- Overnight monitoring of patients.
- Sleep or respiratory testing experience.
- Neurology or psychology experience.
- NHS nursing experience.
- Willingness to undertake further study.
