This is a frontline clinical role supporting children and young people experiencing acute mental health crises. The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary team providing rapid assessments, safety planning and intensive home-based interventions aimed at helping young people remain safely supported in their own environment and reducing unnecessary hospital admissions.

The initial appointment is for 7 months, with the potential for an extension.

What you will do

As a senior clinician within the CAMHS Crisis and Home Treatment Team, you will provide specialist mental health support to children and young people experiencing acute crises.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out rapid mental health and risk assessments.
  • Developing safety and crisis plans.
  • Providing intensive home-based interventions.
  • Supporting young people in their homes and communities.
  • Using de-escalation and brief therapeutic interventions during periods of crisis.
  • Contributing to clinical formulation and medication monitoring.
  • Supporting safe discharge planning and coordinating care across services.
  • Working closely with families, schools, social care, paediatrics and inpatient services.
  • Maintaining high-quality clinical documentation.
  • Working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Providing cross-cover across the CAMHS Urgent Care Pathway when required.

Essential qualifications

Applicants must be a professionally registered practitioner with current registration with one of the following:

  • NMC
  • Social Work England
  • HCPC

Relevant post-qualifying training or an equivalent level of experience is desirable. Additional therapeutic training, such as counselling, family therapy, CBT or substance misuse, would also be beneficial.

Skills and experience

The Trust is looking for candidates with knowledge and experience relevant to CAMHS crisis work, including:

  • Common CAMHS crisis presentations such as self-harm, suicidal ideation, behavioural dysregulation and eating disorders.
  • Crisis management and de-escalation.
  • Rapid and holistic mental health and risk assessments.
  • Evidence-based interventions.
  • Community-based or home-treatment services.
  • Multidisciplinary working.
  • Safe discharge planning and care coordination.
  • CAMHS or mental health crisis services, ideally involving children and young people.
  • Therapeutic interventions.
  • Trauma-informed and culturally competent practice.

Knowledge of child and adolescent development, attachment, trauma, neurodiversity and family dynamics would be advantageous.
