About the Role
As a Content Designer, you’ll work within UKHSA’s GOV.UK publishing team to create high-quality, accessible, and user-focused digital content.
You will collaborate with scientists, policy experts, and stakeholders to ensure government information is accurate, easy to understand, and accessible to everyone.
The role also involves supporting public health communications during emergencies, where content may need to be produced quickly while maintaining high editorial standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and publish content for GOV.UK
- Write, edit and manage digital content using Whitehall Publisher
- Apply user-centred content design principles
- Improve content using user research and analytics
- Ensure compliance with accessibility regulations
- Coach colleagues in writing plain English
- Lead complex editorial and publishing projects
- Work with scientists, policy teams and stakeholders
- Manage Jira Service Desk workflows
- Maintain UKHSA editorial standards and style guidance
Essential Requirements
Applicants should have experience in:
- Writing accessible web content
- User-centred content design
- Accessibility Regulations (Public Sector Websites and Mobile Applications Regulations 2018)
- Content Management Systems (CMS)
- Basic image editing
- Using analytics and user feedback
- Managing stakeholder relationships
- Writing and editing using style guides
Desirable Skills
- Digital project support

- Health or scientific communications
- Figma or other prototyping tools
Hybrid Working
This is a hybrid role based at UKHSA’s Canary Wharf headquarters.
Employees are expected to work approximately 3 days per week in the office, with the remaining days worked remotely where business needs allow.
