Overview
European Bioinformatics Institute EMBL-EBI is hiring a Full Stack Engineer to support and improve digital platforms used for global life sciences training programs. The role involves developing scalable, accessible, and user-focused web applications for an international audience.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Training Team and Web Development Team to build and maintain modern web solutions using technologies like React, PHP, WordPress, and Drupal.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain websites using PHP, React, WordPress, and Drupal
- Build frontend and backend architecture
- Create APIs and RESTful services
- Ensure responsive and accessible web design (WCAG compliance)
- Improve website security and performance
- Conduct code reviews and unit testing
- Write technical documentation
- Support users through ticketing systems
- Collaborate with internal teams and global partners
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or Engineering
- 4–5 years experience as a senior full stack developer
- Strong experience with Drupal and WordPress CMS
- Proficiency in:
- HTML
- CSS
- JavaScript
- TypeScript
- React / Angular / VueJS
- PHP / Ruby / Node.js
- Experience with APIs and cloud infrastructure
- Knowledge of MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB
- Familiarity with Linux, Apache, Nginx, SSH
- Experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins or GitLab
- Understanding of AWS hosting environments
- Experience integrating AI solutions and APIs into applications
Preferred Skills
- Docker or Kubernetes deployment
- Agile development experience
- Google Analytics knowledge
- Experience with enterprise Drupal architecture
- Build tools such as NPM, Sass/SCSS, Grunt, or Jekyll
