About the Role

The UK Department for Education is recruiting experienced DevOps Engineers to support critical education funding platforms responsible for distributing over £85 billion in funding across England.

This role offers the opportunity to work on large-scale cloud infrastructure, DevSecOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes platforms, and Azure cloud technologies while contributing to nationally important services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure and DevOps platforms.
  • Develop and improve CI/CD pipelines and automation processes.
  • Support Azure cloud services and containerized environments.
  • Implement DevSecOps principles and security controls.
  • Assist with migration from legacy systems to modern cloud-native platforms.
  • Support incident management and service reliability improvements.
  • Collaborate with architects, cybersecurity teams, and delivery teams.
  • Contribute to engineering standards and best practices.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or Platform Engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automation.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure and DevSecOps practices.
  • Understanding of security, reliability, and risk management.
  • Experience supporting cloud transformation or migration projects.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Desirable Skills

  • Microsoft Azure experience.
  • Kubernetes or Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
  • Government or regulated-sector experience.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Internal developer platforms and reusable engineering patterns.
  • Mentoring and supporting junior engineers.
