About the Role
Operational Support Grades (OSGs) are essential to the day-to-day running of prisons across England and Wales. In this role, you’ll help maintain safety, security, and operational efficiency by supporting prison staff, visitors, and prisoners.
This is a physically active position involving walking, standing for long periods, lifting, and working rotating day and night shifts. Full training is provided before you begin.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out gate security duties and searches.
- Monitor CCTV and prison radio communications.
- Welcome and assist visitors.
- Process prisoner reception and property.
- Handle incoming mail and report prohibited items.
- Conduct night security checks.
- Support prison officers with prisoner supervision.
- Deliver food trolleys throughout the prison.
- Collect official mail when required.
- Maintain accurate records and follow prison procedures.
