About the Role
The successful candidate will work within the Colindale Sequencing Laboratory, helping deliver high-quality genomic testing services using modern sequencing technologies.
The laboratory provides genomic analysis through:
- Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS)
- Sanger Sequencing
- Fragment Analysis
- Automated liquid handling systems
- Molecular diagnostic technologies
Please note: This is a laboratory-based position with no hybrid or remote working.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform molecular laboratory testing following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Operate and maintain Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) platforms.
- Perform Sanger sequencing and fragment analysis.
- Prepare and process laboratory samples accurately.
- Monitor laboratory quality control procedures.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, including calibration and safety checks.
- Ensure efficient laboratory workflow from sample receipt to reporting.
- Manage laboratory stock and reagents.
- Train and support junior staff and visitors.
- Support laboratory quality management systems.
- Ensure compliance with UKAS accreditation standards.
- Contribute to continuous service improvement.
Essential Requirements
Applicants should have:
- A degree in Biomedical Science, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Biological Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Experience operating NGS sequencing platforms independently.
- Knowledge of automated liquid handling systems.
- Strong understanding of laboratory safety procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Good computer and data management skills.
- Ability to manage workload independently and meet deadlines.
