About the Role

As a Crown Court Clerk, you will play a vital role in ensuring court hearings run efficiently. You will work closely with Judges, legal professionals, court users, and members of the public while producing accurate legal documentation and supporting the smooth operation of Crown Court proceedings.

Successful candidates will receive a comprehensive structured training programme designed to develop the specialist skills required for this important role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Judges during Crown Court hearings.
  • Speak confidently in open court.
  • Produce accurate court orders and legal documentation.
  • Record hearing outcomes and verdicts.
  • Conduct arraignments and manage court records.
  • Liaise professionally with prosecutors, defence lawyers, police, witnesses and court users.
  • Ensure hearings progress efficiently.
  • Support and motivate colleagues where management responsibilities apply.
  • Maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive information.
  • Use digital court systems and technology effectively.

Additional Information

  • Office-based customer-facing role.
  • Minimum 60% office attendance under the hybrid working policy where applicable.
  • Occasional travel to Basildon, Ipswich and Colchester may be required.

  • Face-to-face interviews are expected to begin 24 August 2026 at Chelmsford Crown Court.
