What Will You Do as a DDaT Apprentice?

Apprenticeship Qualification and Training

Successful candidates will work towards a Level 3 Apprenticeship in ICT, Software, Web and Telecoms.

The programme combines practical workplace experience with structured learning.

You will be supported by experienced colleagues and a dedicated training provider to help you develop the knowledge, skills and confidence required for a career in DDaT.

How the Apprenticeship Works

The apprenticeship typically lasts around 18 months, with:

  • 80% of your time spent learning through practical workplace experience.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the relevant Civil Service Nationality requirements.

  • Be at least 16 years old by 1 September 2026.
  • Be available to start the apprenticeship in March 2027.
  • Not be in full-time education when you start.

  • Be willing to learn and develop new skills.

No Upper Age Limit

There is no upper age limit for this apprenticeship.

Therefore, eligible applicants of different ages can apply provided they meet the other requirements.

Existing Qualifications

You do not need previous DDaT experience or specific qualifications to apply.

However, if you already hold a Level 3 qualification or above in ICT, Software, Web and Telecoms, or a closely related subject, you may not be eligible for this particular apprenticeship.

Wales Essential Skills Toolkit Assessment

Applicants will also need to complete the Wales Essential Skills Toolkit (WEST) assessment.
