Job Overview
North West London Pathology (NWLP) is recruiting a Senior Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing DBA to join its Business Intelligence team in London.
The successful candidate will support the management of SQL Server data warehousing infrastructure and provide essential management, financial, clinical and near-real-time operational data to more than 1,000 NWLP colleagues, partners and clients.
This is a Band 7, full-time, fixed-term position for 6 months, primarily based at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, with opportunities for remote working.

About the Role
As a Senior Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing DBA, you will work within a close-knit Business Intelligence team responsible for delivering critical data and reporting services across NWLP.
You will manage the team’s dedicated SQL Server Data Warehouse, while supporting reporting, data extraction, ETL processes and operational data requirements.
The role is primarily based at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, with occasional travel to partner sites where required.
Flexible & Remote Working
Although face-to-face communication is valued, NWLP states that the role is open to remote working. The successful candidate can discuss an appropriate remote-working arrangement with the organisation.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the BI Team’s dedicated SQL Server Data Warehouse.
- Monitor scheduled SSIS and SQL Server Agent tasks.
- Investigate and respond to technical issues.
- Act as the first point of contact for stakeholders.
- Respond to data-related requests or refer them to appropriate team members.
- Develop ad-hoc and regular reports.
- Supply the NWLP Finance team and partners with routine month-end data.
- Maintain key reference datasets.
- Work flexibly and collaboratively as part of the Business Intelligence team.
Essential Qualifications
- First degree.
- Microsoft SQL Server Database Management training.
- T-SQL training.
- Evidence of continuing personal and professional development.
Desirable Qualifications
- Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) training.
- Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) training.
- Scientific qualification.
- Experience working in pathology or healthcare.
Essential Technical Skills
- Intermediate Microsoft Excel.
- Intermediate Microsoft Access.
- Strong T-SQL/SQL skills.
- Ability to extract data from large and complex databases.
- Experience managing SQL Server 2019.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to identify weaknesses in manual or system processes.
- Ability to organise and implement corrective action.
Desirable Technical Skills
- Data warehouse design principles.
- NHS operational and strategic issues.
- NHS mandatory reporting requirements.
