About the Role
The BI & Data Engineer will work alongside the BI Lead to develop, maintain and support Greenwich Health’s Business Intelligence, reporting and data infrastructure.
The successful candidate will independently manage areas of the BI environment, troubleshoot data and reporting issues, develop new solutions and contribute to improvements in the organisation’s data infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
Business Intelligence & Data Engineering
The successful candidate will:
- Develop, maintain and support SQL databases, data models, queries, stored procedures and reporting datasets.
- Develop and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards and semantic models.
- Produce regular and ad-hoc analysis for senior management, service leads and commissioners.
- Identify trends, performance issues and opportunities for service improvement.
- Develop and maintain automated ETL and data-processing pipelines.
- Manage data ingestion, transformation, validation and loading.
- Use Python, SQL and other appropriate technologies to automate data-processing and reporting.
- Monitor scheduled data processes, reporting systems and interfaces.
- Investigate and resolve data-quality problems and system failures.
- Design validation, reconciliation, logging and alerting processes.
- Support cloud-based data infrastructure, including Azure SQL and Microsoft Azure services.
- Apply software-development practices including source control, documentation, testing, code review and controlled deployment.
- Work with stakeholders to understand information requirements.
- Translate business requirements into practical technical and reporting solutions.
Reporting & Healthcare Data
The role will support:

Information Governance Responsibilities
The role will provide practical and technical support to Greenwich Health’s Information Governance function.
The successful candidate will work alongside the BI Lead, Caldicott Guardian, Data Protection Officer and Senior Information Risk Owner.
Responsibilities include:
- Supporting the annual Data Security and Protection Toolkit submission.
- Maintaining Information Governance evidence.
- Tracking outstanding actions.
- Maintaining Information Governance policies.
- Maintaining the Information Asset Register.
- Maintaining the Record of Processing Activities.
- Documenting organisational data flows.
- Supporting Data Sharing Agreements and Data Processing Agreements.
- Maintaining registers of data-sharing arrangements and processor contracts.
- Supporting Data Protection Impact Assessments.
- Supporting supplier and system assurance.
- Reviewing third-party security documentation.
- Providing technical evidence for audits and inspections.
- Supporting access-control reviews.
- Producing access reports.
- Supporting Subject Access Requests and Freedom of Information requests.
- Extracting and quality-checking relevant information.
- Supporting investigations into Information Governance incidents and suspected breaches.
- Contributing to remedial action plans.
- Producing Information Governance monitoring reports.
- Supporting governance papers and reporting.
Essential Experience
Applicants should have:
- Significant practical experience in Business Intelligence, data analytics, data engineering or a related field.
- Strong SQL skills.
- Experience developing and maintaining relational databases.
- Experience creating queries and data transformations.
- Experience developing dashboards and analytical reports using Power BI or a comparable platform.
- Experience designing and maintaining ETL or automated data-processing workflows.
- Experience using Python or another programming/scripting language.
- Strong knowledge of data modelling.
- Understanding of data quality, validation and reconciliation.
- Ability to investigate complex data and system problems.
- Ability to identify practical solutions independently.
- Experience producing accurate management information.
- Ability to communicate data findings to non-technical stakeholders.
