The University of Manchester is recruiting an Information Governance Officer (Technical) to join its Information Governance Office within the Directorate of Compliance and Risk.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced information governance, data protection, risk, assurance or technical professional to support major digital transformation programmes and help ensure that information governance, security and records management requirements are built into digital systems.

About the Role

The University of Manchester is looking for a motivated and collaborative professional to work at the intersection of information governance, data protection and technology.

The successful candidate will support major digital programmes and projects, working closely with IT Services, programme teams and technical specialists.

The role will involve helping ensure that digital systems are secure, compliant and fit for purpose, while identifying and managing information governance risks throughout the design and delivery of technology projects.

Key Responsibilities

▫️ Support major digital programmes and projects by identifying and managing information governance risks.

▫️ Deliver Information Governance Risk Reviews (IGRRs) across systems and services.

▫️ Assess system architectures, identity models, access controls and data flows.

▫️ Recommend proportionate measures to mitigate information governance and security risks.

▫️ Work with IT Services, including Security Architecture and Identity and Access Management teams.

▫️ Help embed governance and security requirements into digital systems and projects.

▫️ Provide advice on data governance, classification, retention and lawful processing.

▫️ Contribute to governance documentation and audit evidence.

Essential Requirements

Applicants should be able to demonstrate:

▫️ Experience applying information governance or data protection principles in technical, digital or system-based environments.

▫️ Experience supporting or delivering risk assessments, Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) or assurance activities.

▫️ Experience working with digital transformation programmes, IT systems or identity and access management services.

▫️ Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify information risks.

▫️ Ability to develop practical and proportionate solutions to information governance risks.

▫️ Excellent communication skills.

▫️ Ability to work effectively with technical teams and a wide range of stakeholders.

Desirable Experience and Qualifications

The following would be advantageous:

▫️ Knowledge of data protection legislation.

▫️ Relevant technical or professional certifications, such as CompTIA, BCS or IAPP, or equivalent professional experience.

▫️ Experience producing structured and defensible governance or assurance documentation.

Salary: £47,389 – £58,225 per annum, depending on experience
