About the Role
The successful candidate will work within a welcoming specialist secondary SEND school, supporting students with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties, complex learning needs, physical disabilities and medical needs.
This is a hands-on support role involving both learning support and personal care.
Candidates should be comfortable assisting students with personal care requirements and carrying out moving and handling duties safely and respectfully.
Key Responsibilities
- Support students with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD).
- Provide 1-to-1 and small-group learning support.
- Help students access lessons and achieve individual learning outcomes.
- Provide personal care when required.
- Assist with toileting, feeding and changing while maintaining dignity and privacy.
- Carry out moving and handling duties safely.
- Support students using mobility equipment.
- Work alongside teachers, therapists and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Use sensory strategies and communication aids.
- Encourage communication, positive behaviour and social interaction.
- Promote students’ independence.
- Help maintain a safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment.
Candidate Requirements

Desirable Experience
Previous experience in the following areas would be advantageous:
- SEND education.
- Special educational needs support.

- Moving and handling.
Moving and handling experience is desirable, although training can be provided.
Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, sensory regulation or alternative communication methods would also be beneficial but is not essential.
