About the Role
Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Senior Support Worker – Children and Young People’s Eating Disorders to join its specialist team.
The successful candidate will support children and young people experiencing eating disorders, working with their families and alongside a multidisciplinary team. The role involves helping young people establish healthier routines, supporting recovery plans and monitoring their physical and emotional wellbeing.
The position is based across South Staffordshire, so applicants will need access to a vehicle for work-related travel.
Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will:
- Support children and young people with eating disorder recovery plans.
- Help young people establish stable eating patterns and positive daily routines.
- Provide practical and emotional support to young people and their families.
- Work alongside clinicians to deliver agreed care plans and interventions.
- Support daily routines, mealtimes and structured therapeutic activities.
- Assist with therapeutic interventions and psychoeducation sessions under qualified staff supervision.
- Monitor and record physical health observations, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature and weight.
- Complete blood tests and ECGs.
- Support psychoeducation groups and family interventions.
- Identify changes in wellbeing, presentation or behaviour and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Encourage young people to participate in education, activities and community life.
- Promote recovery, independence and positive coping strategies.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.
- Support other workers and role-model recommended approaches in practice.
What the Employer Is Looking For
The role requires someone who is compassionate, organised and confident when working with young people and families in a community setting.
Experience of eating disorders and physical health monitoring, including blood tests and ECGs, is helpful. Full training can be provided for the right candidate.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants must have one of the following:
- A foundation degree in a relevant subject.
- Diploma/NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care.
- Accredited prior learning supported by competency-based evidence and relevant short courses.
Essential Experience
Applicants should have significant experience of:
- Working with children with mental health needs as part of a multidisciplinary community team.
- Working within a multi-agency framework.
- Formulating children’s difficulties and developing care plans.
- Using evidence-based interventions with children.
- Supporting other workers and demonstrating recommended approaches and interventions in practice.
Desirable Experience
Experience of the following would be beneficial:
- Working with people experiencing mental health concerns.
- Working with young people with eating disorders.
Skills and Abilities
Applicants should be able to:
- Participate in reflective practice and clinical supervision.
- Manage a varied, non-routine and sometimes unpredictable workload.
- Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers and multidisciplinary team members.
- Build effective and appropriate relationships with young people, families, carers and colleagues.
Working Pattern and Travel
This is a permanent part-time position of 22.5 hours per week, with working days to be agreed upon appointment.
The role involves travelling across South Staffordshire, and access to a vehicle is required.
Training and Development
The Trust states that it provides ongoing training and support for staff across its clinical and non-clinical roles.
For this particular vacancy, applicants do not necessarily need previous eating-disorder and physical-health-monitoring experience because full training can be provided for the right candidate.
Additional Eligibility Requirements
