About the Role

Cambridge City Council is looking for Housing Officers to manage tenancies across a defined Cambridge neighbourhood.

The role involves helping residents sustain their tenancies, resolving housing-related issues and working to make local neighbourhoods safer and better places to live.

You will take responsibility for a varied caseload and work with residents, colleagues and partner organisations to resolve complex issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied caseload covering tenancy disputes, complaints, tenancy audits and anti-social behaviour.
  • Work with residents to resolve problems and take enforcement or legal action where appropriate.
  • Identify safeguarding concerns and work with colleagues and partner agencies to manage risk and support residents.
  • Build effective relationships with residents and Residents’ Groups.
  • Contribute to projects designed to improve neighbourhoods.
  • Manage and develop an Assistant Housing Officer through day-to-day support, supervision and clear direction.
  • Take ownership of complex cases and make sound, evidence-based decisions.

Requirements

Applicants should have experience delivering customer-focused services and achieving results in tenancy management or a similar enforcement or community development role.

You should be able to:

  • Manage a busy workload and complex cases.
  • Communicate clearly and sensitively with residents and colleagues.
  • Build trust and effective working relationships.
  • Work confidently with partner organisations.
  • Demonstrate first-line management or coaching experience.
  • Support staff development and address performance concerns.
  • Use common IT applications, including Microsoft 365, confidently.
  • Demonstrate a good standard of education.

A relevant housing qualification and previous housing-sector experience are desirable.

Working Location

The contractual work base is Mandela House.

The role involves visiting sites and attending meetings across Cambridge, so applicants must be able to travel between locations.

The council offers flexible working, with the role balancing work from home, council offices and on-site locations as appropriate.

DBS and Safeguarding

Salary and Benefits

The salary is £43,150 – £48,738 per annum (Band 6), pro rata for part-time work.
