About the Role

Ofgem is Great Britain’s independent energy regulator. It works to protect energy consumers, including vulnerable people, while supporting the transition towards a cleaner, more affordable and secure energy system.

As Executive Assistant, you will work directly with Directors and senior leaders, helping them manage their time, prioritise important work and coordinate activities across the organisation.

The role goes beyond traditional administrative support, offering exposure to digital transformation, people strategy, organisational change and operational delivery.

Ofgem is particularly interested in candidates with substantial experience supporting Directors or senior leaders in a demanding environment. Experience supporting multiple Directors within a Human Resources or Technology directorate would be an advantage.

Successful candidates must also be willing to travel around the UK. Applicants from Cardiff and Glasgow are particularly encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic and Diary Management

  • Proactively manage Directors’ diaries and forward plans, ensuring their time reflects strategic priorities and organisational objectives.
  • Coordinate complex schedules and help senior leaders focus on high-priority activities.
  • Anticipate competing demands and identify potential scheduling issues.

Stakeholder Management

  • Act as a first point of contact for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Handle enquiries professionally and maintain a positive image of the directorate.
  • Build strong working relationships across teams and with external partners.

Information and Meeting Coordination

  • Work with Private Secretaries to ensure Directors receive relevant papers, briefs and meeting materials in good time.
  • Keep Directors and Private Secretaries informed about important developments, risks and other relevant information.
  • Support effective preparation for meetings and senior-level decision-making.

Visa Sponsorship and Eligibility

Visa sponsorship is not confirmed in the published advert. Ofgem’s stated nationality and eligibility requirements cover specified groups, including UK and Irish nationals, eligible Commonwealth citizens with the right to work in the UK, and certain EU and other nationals with qualifying immigration status.

Meeting the stated nationality requirements does not automatically establish eligibility for Skilled Worker sponsorship. Candidates who require a new visa or sponsorship to take up the role should contact Ofgem before applying to confirm whether sponsorship is available.

Application and Selection Process

The vacancy uses the Civil Service Success Profiles recruitment framework and assesses behaviours, ability and experience.

The application process involves:

  1. Completing a Civil Service online test. The advert states that the test is not timed and can be completed at your own pace.
  2. Providing personal details, career history and qualifications after passing the test.
  3. Answering two questions demonstrating how you meet the essential and desirable skills and capabilities for the role.

If a large number of applications are received, Ofgem may conduct an initial sift based on the lead criterion. Applicants should therefore clearly demonstrate their experience supporting Directors or Deputy Directors and managing their time around strategic priorities.

Applicants should use their own genuine work experience in their answers. Ofgem warns that plagiarism or presenting others’ experiences as one’s own may lead to an application being withdrawn.
