The successful candidate will analyse information from multiple sources to identify emerging health security threats, assess their implications and provide intelligence that supports important decisions across UK Government.
This is an opportunity to contribute to national and international health security while working with specialists in intelligence assessment, epidemiology, data science, statistical modelling and social research.
Key Responsibilities
As an Intelligence Analyst, your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting all-source intelligence analysis using structured analytical techniques to support high-quality assessments.

- Producing intelligence assessments on UK and international health security threats.
- Identifying emerging developments and trends that could affect UK national security and health interests.
- Communicating analytical findings clearly through written reports, briefings and verbal presentations.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across UKHSA, government departments and external partners.
- Managing competing priorities and delivering analytical assignments within agreed deadlines.
- Identifying potential risks, patterns and implications to support evidence-based decision-making.

Essential Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate:

- Experience researching, evaluating and interpreting information from multiple sources to produce reports, assessments, briefings or other analytical outputs.

Relevant health or bioscience experience may come from policy, diplomatic, technical, clinical or professional academic backgrounds.

Successful candidates will have access to extensive professional development opportunities.
Those who are not already part of the Professional Head of Intelligence Assessment (PHIA) profession will receive training to develop their expertise in all-source intelligence assessment.
UKHSA also offers tailored learning and development within a supportive working environment.
Salary and Benefits
- Annual salary of £37,749 – £45,353.
- Permanent employment.
- Flexible working arrangements.
- Part-time and job-share opportunities.
- Hybrid working.
- Professional training and development.
- Opportunities to work with senior government decision-makers.
- Exposure to national and international health security issues.
Working Arrangements
The position is based at UKHSA’s Core Headquarters in Canary Wharf, London.
The organisation operates a hybrid working arrangement, requiring employees to spend at least 60% of their contractual working hours in the office, approximately three days per week for a full-time employee, averaged over a month.
Visa Sponsorship and Security Clearance
UKHSA explicitly welcomes applications from candidates who require current Skilled Worker visa sponsorship. Such applications will be considered alongside other applications.
However, applicants should be aware that this position requires Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance.
Candidates would normally need to have lived in the UK for the last 10 years to undergo the required security checks. A shorter period of UK residency does not automatically disqualify an applicant, but additional advice should be obtained from the recruiting manager.
Successful candidates must also pass the required background and disclosure checks.
Application and Selection Process
The recruitment process will assess candidates through the Civil Service Success Profiles framework, covering experience, behaviours and technical skills.
Stage 1: Application and Shortlisting
Applicants must complete the online application form, including their employment and activity history, and submit a supporting statement of no more than 750 words.
The supporting statement must demonstrate how their skills, knowledge and experience meet all five essential criteria.
CV uploads are not accepted. Applicants should provide sufficient detail in the application form because it will be used alongside the supporting statement during assessment.
If there is a high volume of applications, UKHSA may conduct an initial sift based on the lead criterion: relevant all-source intelligence analysis experience or a health/bioscience qualification combined with professional experience.
Stage 2: Interview
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a single remote interview.
The interview will assess the following behaviours:
- Making Effective Decisions (Lead Behaviour).
- Working Together.
- Communicating and Influencing.
Candidates will also complete a technical presentation.
The presentation will require a five-minute assessment of the possible cause of ‘pneumonia of undetermined aetiology’ in Russia in October 2026.
Interview dates are yet to be confirmed.
How to Apply
Interested and eligible candidates should complete the online application through the official NHS Jobs recruitment portal.
Closing date: 9 November 2026.
