About the Role
The Senior Repowering Officer will work with community organisations seeking to secure ownership, shared ownership or long-term benefits from renewable energy developments undergoing repowering.
You will work with communities, renewable energy developers, public bodies, specialist advisers and project partners to identify opportunities, assess their viability and develop practical plans for progressing renewable energy ownership projects.
A particular focus will be on helping Orkney communities explore new opportunities while making the best possible use of existing community energy assets.
Key Responsibilities
Repowering Project Development and Delivery
- Coordinate feasibility studies, business cases and ownership proposals.
- Help resource and deliver renewable energy development projects.
- Work with consultants, specialist advisers and project partners to assess opportunities.
- Support communities with expressions of interest, funding applications, heads of terms, memorandums of understanding, options and investment-ready proposals.
- Research and analyse renewable energy ownership opportunities, market conditions and relevant policy developments.
- Monitor project progress against agreed targets and maintain accurate project records.
Community Renewable Energy Ownership
- Support communities exploring ways to extend the life and maximise the value of existing community energy assets.
- Help existing and emerging community energy organisations investigate ownership, shared ownership and acquisition opportunities.
- Explain technical, commercial, legal, financial and governance considerations relating to renewable energy ownership.
- Further assess ownership opportunities identified through previous options appraisal work.

Capacity Building and Knowledge Sharing
The successful candidate will also help strengthen community capability by:
- Organising and facilitating workshops, webinars and training sessions where appropriate.
- Supporting peer-learning and knowledge sharing between communities.
- Identifying and documenting lessons learned and emerging good practice.
- Working collaboratively with the wider Community Energy Scotland team.
Requirements / Person Specification
Essential qualifications, knowledge and experience
Applicants should have:
- A degree-level qualification in a relevant subject or equivalent relevant experience.
- At least three years’ experience in a relevant sector, such as community energy, renewable energy project development and management, or energy consultancy.
- Experience in project management and financial management.
- Strong technical knowledge, including practical experience in at least two of the following areas:
- Renewable energy feasibility studies and options appraisals.
- Energy demand and generation profiling and grid impact assessment.
- Infrastructure and technology integration for commercial-scale renewable energy generation.
- Construction and operation of commercial-scale renewable energy assets.
- Electrical storage technology.
- Environmental impact assessments.
- Data collection and analysis, including statistical software and/or coding.
You should also demonstrate:
