The Charity Commission is recruiting 5 permanent Case Managers at Higher Executive Officer (HEO) level, based in Bootle, Liverpool or Newport, Wales.
The role focuses on complex and high-risk regulatory casework involving charities, including investigations into potential misconduct, mismanagement and abuse. You will work with legal, accountancy, intelligence and external partners to support evidence-based regulatory decisions and protect charities, their assets and beneficiaries from harm.

About the Role
As a Case Manager, you will contribute to complex compliance and regulatory cases supporting the Charity Commission’s statutory responsibilities.
The work includes cases involving potential misconduct, mismanagement and abuse within the charity sector, including high-risk and high-profile matters that may attract significant public interest.
You will help ensure that the Commission’s risk framework is applied appropriately and that its legal powers are used proportionately to protect charities, their property and assets.
The role also involves managing casework against agreed performance and quality standards while contributing to continuous improvement and maintaining a strong customer service approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical oversight, mentoring and/or line management within a team.
- Manage complex caseloads while balancing competing priorities.
- Provide supervision and oversight of higher-risk or novel work.
- Make evidence-based decisions using risk-based judgement, analysis and available information.
- Work with legal, accountancy and intelligence colleagues on complex cases.
- Engage trustees and other stakeholders to support compliance with legal duties.
- Consider and use appropriate legal powers where necessary.
- Communicate with stakeholders through written correspondence, telephone calls and face-to-face engagement.
- Contribute to team performance, quality targets and organisational objectives.
- Work with regulators, government departments, law enforcement and other external partners.
- Conduct quality assurance reviews and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Share good practice and develop skills across the relevant job family.

Salary and Benefits
The salary is £35,384 per year, with the Charity Commission contributing towards membership of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension Scheme.
The advertised employer pension contribution is 28.97%.

Working Pattern and Hybrid Working
