Somerset Council is recruiting a Project Management Graduate to join its Flood Resilience Programme Team in Taunton.
This two-year graduate opportunity offers practical experience in project delivery, stakeholder engagement, data analysis and programme coordination, while contributing to projects aimed at reducing flood risk and improving long-term resilience across Somerset.
Salary
- Starting salary: £29,542 per year
- Progression through the graduate scheme to £33,673 per year
- Grade 12 progressing to Grade 11
Contract & Working Hours
- Full-time: 37 hours per week
- Contract: Fixed-term for 2 years
- Location: Taunton, Somerset, TA1 4DY
- Flexible and hybrid working available where service needs allow

About the Role
As a Project Management Graduate, you will support a major two-year Flood Resilience Programme involving multiple partners and stakeholders.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the planning, coordination and delivery of projects.
- Analysing GIS mapping, environmental records and other data.
- Working with communities and partner organisations.
- Monitoring project milestones, risks, performance and outcomes.
- Preparing reports, presentations and project documentation.
- Helping identify opportunities to improve flood and coastal resilience.
Requirements
Applicants should have:
- A relevant degree or equivalent qualification with at least a 2:2 classification, obtained within the last 3 years.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good digital and IT skills, including Microsoft Office experience.
