About the role
Birmingham City Council is looking for a proactive Fleet Support Officer to join its Street Scene Fleet Management team.
The role will help ensure the council’s fleet operates efficiently, safely and in line with regulatory requirements. You will work with internal teams and external partners to maintain accurate records, support fleet analysis and help deliver cost-effective services.
Key responsibilities
As a Fleet Support Officer, you will:
- Coordinate and maintain essential fleet maintenance documentation, including PMIs, brake tests and defect logs.
- Keep statutory records up to date for tax, MOT, insurance and licensing.
- Validate fuel card requests and monitor fuel transactions.
- Assist with procurement activities, including raising purchase orders.
- Support insurance claims processing and incident reporting.
- Liaise with suppliers and service providers to resolve compliance issues.
- Produce and analyse fleet data reports using Excel and Power BI.
- Ensure GDPR requirements are followed when handling sensitive documentation.
- Administer hire vehicle approvals and monitor associated costs.
- Support the monitoring of electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
What Birmingham City Council is looking for
The successful candidate should have:
- An understanding of vehicle compliance requirements, including MOTs, O Licence, tax and insurance.
- Experience managing insurance claims and analysing fleet data.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
- Effective communication skills for working with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Good IT skills, including experience with fleet management software, Microsoft Office and DVLA portals.
