About the Role
Herefordshire Council is looking for a qualified Social Worker to join its Family Help – Central Locality team.
The successful candidate will work with children, young people and families, alongside colleagues and partner agencies, to provide support and interventions that promote children’s wellbeing, safety and positive outcomes.
You will work within the statutory framework and play an important role in safeguarding children, including working with the Multi-Agency Child Protection Team where concerns arise.
The role follows Herefordshire Council’s Social Work Progression Pathway. Candidates who demonstrate the required competencies for Senior Practitioner through the application, interview and references may be appointed at the appropriate level depending on their skills and experience.
Key Responsibilities
As a Social Worker within the Family Help team, you will:
- Manage a complex caseload within a locality-based team.
- Act as the Family Help Lead Practitioner.
- Assess children’s and families’ needs and identify risks.
- Develop and review tailored Family Help Plans.
- Work with partner agencies to coordinate multi-agency support.
- Chair and contribute to Child in Need, core group and strategy meetings.
- Undertake risk assessments and safeguarding interventions.
- Build restorative relationships with children, families and professionals.
- Support the safety and welfare of children, including children within the looked-after system.
- Maintain accurate case records.
- Produce high-quality reports, including court reports where required.
- Contribute to professional decision-making and effective outcomes for children and families.
About You
Applicants should be qualified Social Workers with a Social Work Degree, DipSW, CQSW or equivalent qualification and current Social Work England registration.
You should have experience working with children and families within a statutory social care setting, together with a good understanding of safeguarding, child protection, relevant legislation and professional guidance.
