Job Overview

Staffordshire County Council is recruiting two Support Facilitators to join the team at Hawthorn House, a residential service supporting adults with learning disabilities.

This is an opportunity for caring, enthusiastic individuals who want to help adults with learning disabilities and autism develop their skills, access new opportunities and live as independently as possible.

The council is looking for people who recognise individuals’ strengths, respect their choices and help them maintain control over their lives.

The successful candidates will work 28 hours per week and must be available for morning and afternoon shifts, including weekends and bank holidays. These shifts attract a 10.6% allowance.

Important: This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship, following changes in legislation effective 22 July 2025. Applicants must therefore have an appropriate existing right to work in the UK.

Main Responsibilities

As a Support Facilitator, your duties will include:

  • Maintaining individuals’ dignity and assisting with personal and intimate care.
  • Following dietary care plans and supporting individuals with eating and drinking.
  • Assisting with the manual handling of individuals.
  • Providing positive behavioural support and safety interventions.
  • Supporting individuals to participate in community activities.
  • Encouraging individuals to take an active role in their own care.
  • Organising and facilitating suitable activities for the people you support.

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants should:

  • Have a genuine interest in supporting people with learning disabilities and autism.
  • Be caring, patient and sensitive to individual needs.
  • Help people develop and maintain their independence.
  • Have effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Possess basic ICT skills for digital record-keeping.
  • Remain calm and respond sensitively when managing challenging behaviour or aggression.
  • Be willing and physically able to provide personal care and undertake manual handling duties.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and the ability to adapt to change.

An NVQ Level 2 qualification or Care Certificate would be an advantage. However, applicants without these qualifications are encouraged to apply, as support will be provided to develop the necessary skills and knowledge.

Staffordshire County Council is seeking individuals who are committed to delivering high-quality care and share its ambition to achieve an outstanding Care Quality Commission (CQC) rating.

Additional Employment Checks

The successful applicants will be required to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and a pre-employment health assessment.

As the position is regulated by the CQC, applicants must provide a full employment history dating back to when they left secondary school. This information will be required if an applicant is invited to interview.

Interview Dates

Interviews are scheduled for the week commencing 2 November 2026.

Applicants who do not meet every listed requirement may still wish to apply, as the council recognises transferable skills, relevant experience and qualifications.
