About the Role
Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a professional and experienced Health and Safety Officer to join its Risk, Health and Safety Team.
The successful candidate will help create and maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, visitors and contractors across the Trust’s hospital sites.
Working as one of the Trust’s competent health and safety advisers, you will provide specialist advice, support legal compliance and contribute to risk management, audits, inspections, incident investigations, training and organisational improvement.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide specialist health and safety advice and guidance.
- Conduct audits, inspections and risk assessments.
- Support accident and incident investigations.
- Identify lessons learned and recommend improvements.
- Develop, review and implement health and safety policies.
- Deliver health and safety training.
- Support respiratory protective equipment and fit-testing programmes.
- Monitor health and safety performance.
- Prepare reports for senior leaders and committees.
- Support compliance with health and safety legislation.
- Work with clinical and non-clinical teams to manage risk.
- Promote a positive health and safety culture.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and organisational assurance.
Essential Qualifications
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Health & Safety qualification/NVQ Level 6.
- Recognised Health and Safety qualification at diploma/degree level or extensive relevant experience.
- Current knowledge of health and safety legislation and guidance.
- Certified IOSH membership or equivalent professional membership.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
Desirable Qualifications
- Fit Testing Training – Fit2Fit or equivalent.
- Master’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety.
Essential Experience
- Extensive experience in a similar Health and Safety management role.
- Accident investigation and risk mitigation experience.
- Experience reporting to Board-level groups or Directors.
- Strong people management skills.
- Experience managing change and projects.
- Experience managing and training staff in Respiratory Protective Equipment.
- Knowledge of FFP3 masks and Powered Air Purifying Respirators.
Skills and Knowledge
- Ability to interpret new legislation and guidance.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills.
- Ability to act as the Trust’s nominated Competent Person for Health and Safety.
- Strong risk management knowledge.
- Knowledge of Premises Assurance Model requirements.
- Computer literacy and database experience.
- Ability to work effectively with clinical and non-clinical teams.
