Job Description:
Bison Management Ltd is looking for a reliable and skilled Healthcare Assistant to join our team supporting individuals in care homes and home care environments. The ideal candidate should be able to handle assigned tasks efficiently, show genuine compassion, and work with minimal supervision after training.
This is a paid, full-time role ideal for candidates who are passionate about delivering quality care and improving the well-being of others. Training will be provided for suitable applicants, so care experience is preferred but not essential. You will be a key part of our team helping clients maintain dignity, independence, and quality of life. A valid UK driving licence is required to support travel between care locations across the St Albans area.
Responsibilities:
- Personal Care Support: Assist clients with bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting while maintaining dignity and respecting preferences. Follow individual care plans at all times.
- Mobility & Safety: Support residents with safe transfers, walking, and use of mobility aids. Prevent falls and ensure a safe living environment in line with health and safety standards.
- Meal Preparation & Nutrition: Help with meal planning, preparation, and feeding where required. Monitor fluid/food intake and report concerns to senior staff.
- Medication Assistance: Administer medication in line with care plans and MAR charts. Full training provided. Accurately record all medication given.
- Companionship & Emotional Support: Provide meaningful companionship and emotional support. Engage clients in conversation and activities that promote mental well-being and reduce isolation.
- Health Monitoring: Observe and report any changes in health, behaviour, or mood to the care manager. Recognise signs of illness or distress early.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate, timely care records and documentation using basic IT systems. Ensure all reports are confidential and comply with GDPR.
- Social Engagement: Support clients with activities that promote social engagement, hobbies, and community involvement as outlined in their care plan.
- Compliance: Ensure full compliance with CQC standards, company policies, and health & safety regulations at all times.
Requirements:
- Valid UK driving licence required – you must be willing and able to travel between client homes
- Right to work full time in the UK – Dependent Visa or Graduate Visa with full-time work rights
- Good verbal and written English communication skills for client interaction and record-keeping
- Basic IT skills for updating digital care records and documentation
- Compassionate, patient, and respectful attitude with a genuine desire to help others
- Able to work as part of a team and follow instructions from senior care staff
- Care experience: 2 years preferred but not essential – full training provided
- Physically able to assist with moving and handling tasks after training
