Job Overview
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is recruiting 8 Clinical and Public Health Fellows for a 12-month fixed-term fellowship. This is an excellent opportunity for doctors in specialist training to gain national-level experience in infectious diseases, outbreak response, surveillance, public health policy, research, and service improvement.

Work Location
Hybrid working from one of UKHSA’s scientific campuses or laboratories.
Applicants should normally have lived in the UK for at least 3 years to meet Counter Terrorism Check (CTC) security clearance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
As a Clinical Fellow, you will:
- Investigate infectious disease outbreaks and major incidents.
- Support national infectious disease surveillance.
- Develop public health guidance and policies.
- Participate in research and quality improvement projects.
- Work closely with UKHSA laboratories and multidisciplinary teams.
- Provide clinical advice to healthcare professionals.
- Respond to communicable disease cases and outbreaks.
- Present findings at national meetings.
- Contribute to strategic public health programmes.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must:
- Hold an MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Be enrolled on an accredited UK specialist training programme with a National Training Number (NTN).
- Be training in one of the following:
- Infectious Diseases
- Medical Microbiology
- Virology
- Public Health
- Paediatrics (including Paediatric Infectious Diseases)
- Have satisfactory ARCP progression.
- Demonstrate understanding of the UK research and NHS systems.
- Be able to produce written reports and work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

Security Requirements

- Pass Counter Terrorism Check (CTC) clearance.
- Complete criminal record and pre-employment checks.
- Meet Civil Service nationality requirements.

Important Notes
This fellowship is not open to general medical graduates. It is specifically designed for current UK specialist registrars (StRs) on accredited training programmes undertaking an Out of Programme Experience (OOPE).
