Job Overview
University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Receptionist to join its multidisciplinary team in a patient-facing clinical environment.
The successful candidate will often be the first face-to-face point of contact for patients and visitors attending the hospital.
The role involves welcoming patients, answering queries, providing reassurance and supporting clinical colleagues to ensure the department operates efficiently.
The position will also provide administrative support within the new T2 Ward, including support for admitted patients during the early morning.
Main Responsibilities
- Welcome patients and visitors in a warm, professional and friendly manner.
- Provide reassurance and assistance to patients when required.
- Check patients in for appointments.
- Register patients on the Trust’s Electronic Health Records System where applicable.
- Schedule and rebook patient appointments.
- Follow the Trust Elective Access Policy and RTT targets.
- Escalate appointment-related issues when necessary.
- Provide administrative support to clinical colleagues.
- Support the smooth and efficient running of the department.
- Provide administrative assistance to admitted patients in the T2 Ward.
Essential Qualifications
- GCSE-level education or equivalent.
- Grade C or above in English and Maths, or equivalent.
- Knowledge of administrative procedures.
- Awareness of confidentiality requirements.
- Knowledge of the Data Protection Act.
Desirable Qualification
- NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration, Customer Service, Healthcare Support Services or equivalent.
Essential Experience
Candidates should demonstrate:
- Experience working in a non-routine environment.
- Ability to respond appropriately to queries.
- Ability to handle unpredictable situations.
- Experience working in a customer-facing environment.
- Knowledge of administrative procedures.
- Relevant experience and/or training to Vocational Level 3 or equivalent.
