About the Role
Somerset Council is recruiting Digital Design & Development Officers to help research, analyse, design, develop and improve digital services and platforms used by residents, businesses and communities.
This is an opportunity for a digital professional to contribute to meaningful transformation projects while helping improve how people access essential council services.
The council is recruiting for two full-time positions:
- 1 permanent position
- 1 18-month fixed-term contract

Key Responsibilities
As a Digital Design & Development Officer, you will:
- Design, build and test public forms, transactions and automations supporting essential council services.
- Design, deliver and maintain digital frontend solutions and backend automation.
- Improve customer experiences and service efficiency through digital solutions.
- Work with teams across Somerset Council to understand requirements and identify opportunities for digital improvement.
- Create accessible, user-friendly content and digital experiences for a wide range of users.
- Use user feedback, research and performance data to continuously improve digital services.
- Contribute to digital transformation initiatives across the organisation.
- Help develop solutions based on user needs, accessibility and real-world outcomes.
What You’ll Bring
Applicants should have:
- Experience designing, developing or improving digital products.
- A good understanding of user-centred design and UX principles.
- Knowledge of digital accessibility standards.
- Knowledge of web technologies and content management systems such as WordPress.
- Understanding of digital best practices.
- Experience working collaboratively with different stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- The ability to use data to support decision-making.
- Excellent communication skills.
- The ability to explain technical information clearly to non-technical audiences.
